Mission and History
Mission statement:
We strengthen public libraries in Albany and Rensselaer
Counties, providing essential services to connect people and information.
History
The Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS) is a cooperative association
of twenty-nine autonomous public libraries working together to improve
library service for the 446,626 residents of Albany and Rensselaer Counties.
Founded in 1960 and chartered by the Board of Regents of the University
of the State of New York as a not-for-profit, educational corporation,
UHLS is one of twenty-three public library systems in New York State.
UHLS coordinates programs and activities to assist and complement the
resources and efforts of its member libraries. It offers a variety of
consultant services, works to improve library and information services
through a shared automation system, operates a daily delivery service,
and provides outreach services to underserved populations.
